Revlon Colorsilk

I just coloured my hair with Revlon Colorsilk Luminosity, Golden Brown, and I must say, I’m pretty happy with the result. It is an ammonia-free permanent formula, so it is gentle on the hair, and yet manages to cover up greys.

I have brown-black hair, like most Indians do, but I have golden brown highlights, and so, to cover up greys, I decided to touch my hair up with a similar colour and gradually obtain a slightly lighter shade all over.

I also didn’t apply the colour all over my hair – how could I, without ruining my highlights? I just touched up the roots and washed it off in 25 minutes, as recommended by the instructions in the package.

Although it is recommended to use the entire bottle, I don’t mix the full amount. There’s no point, since I’m not applying it to my entire hair. I’m using just a little bit in front, to cover up a couple of centimenters of grey. So I took a ruler and divided both bottles into three sections. It was easy to do, as both the colour and the developer come in straight bottles. If one was a tube, it gets trickier. So I used a third of each bottle, and made the mix. Not that I want it to last longer – its cheap enough to use once and throw away, but there’s really no need to do that, is there? Those of you who don’t have highlights, will definitely need to apply colour all over their hair, to freshen up the look, but you don’t need to do this every single time you colour. As a matter of fact, I’d rather not, and apply colour on my entire hair once every three to four months. No matter what the package says about hair colour leaving your hair in better condition than earlier, I have my doubts!

And so, like I said, I’ve just coloured my hair today, and I’m pleased. Although I’ve read reviews saying that the colour fades after a few weeks, those of us with grey hair need to anyhow re-apply colour on a regular basis, so we don’t need colour to last a lot longer. If you’re looking for a more permanent and long lasting solution, you may need to look elsewhere. If you want to touch up your greys, you’ve got to try this out. I’m a convert!
